When you get a moment, take a look/read this article about a fellow DS Daddy who has written a book, The Shape of an Eye, about raising a daughter who is blessed with DS. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/05/11/dad-aims-to-change-views-down-syndrome-in-new-book/?intcmp=features

You can find more information on his website http://www.georgeestreich.com/Home.html

I have sent him an email in hopes of interviewing him for the Confessions… blog.

Just….

14 01 2013

Just sitting here thinking about how lucky and blessed I am to have such a wonderful family.

Sometimes I forgot how lucky I am when I let the outside the family interference get in the way.

Birthday gifts

16 12 2012

The Daddy in Confessions of a Down Syndrome Daddy turns 42 years old today. The best gifts I have ever gotten, I have not gotten on my birthday, they were received on March 3, 2004 (when I married the lovely Mary Jane) January 5 (when Emma was born), August 27 (when Brady was born), and July 17 (when Miss Carly was born).

Love being a Dad

11 12 2012

Miss Carly woke up for some late night oatmeal.  As she fell back to sleep, laying on my chest, she started giggling and laughing in her sleep.  I love being a Dad!

Always happy! Really?

14 10 2012

“I love children with Down Syndrome, they are always happy!”

How many times have we all heard that?

I have some pretty good proof that children with Down Syndrome, especially ones who go by the name of Caroline Josephine, are not always happy.

Let’s take this weekend for example…. Not happy when she woke up with an empty belly and MJ carried her right past the kitchen and upstairs to the other bedroom, funny how her crying only stopped when MJ stopped in front of the fridge.

Not happy when she heard someone cooking dinner in the kitchen and then coming into the living room without food for her!

Not happy when I put her in the stroller while I was coaching Brady’s soccer team!  However, she was very happy when I held her while we practiced passing with the team.

Not very happy when she received her two drops of “pink eye” medicine into her eyes this weekend.

Not even close to being happy when she received her ear drops, for her ear infection, in her ears this weekend.

So while she may not always be happy…….

I love my child who is blessed with Down Syndrome.

I miss you

4 10 2012

Eleven years ago, today, my father passed away.

I know that you would have loved to hang out with Miss Carly and tell your students all about her.

I know that you would have hung up this picture in your class computer lab.

Hi Grandpa!

I know that Carly would have enjoyed making you smile and laugh.

She would probably tug on your beard and try to put on your shoes.

Thank you for helping me become the Dad I am today.

I love you and I miss you.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

29 09 2012

October is Down Syndrome Awareness month!

That means the 31 for 21 blog challenge is coming up.

The challenge is to write a blog post a day for the month of October.

Some of my posts will be quick ones, some just pictures, and a couple will be insights on what makes this Down Syndrome Daddy tick.

Stick around, this should be fun!

Comparing myself to other Down Syndrome Daddys

9 09 2012

This may sound really silly, but one of the reasons why I have not been writing lately is that I am constantly comparing myself to other Down Syndrome blogs out there and feeling like my writing is not “spectacular”, mind opening, or current event enough.

Ugh…it is something I will get past but it is a pain to deal with.

Tough Day

20 07 2012

Today was a tough day as we dropped Miss Emma (my daughter) off at the airport.  She spent part of her summer break with us before for heading back to be with her mom for the school year.  Miss Emma and Miss Carly get along so well and Miss Emma is doing a great job at being an awesome big sister.

This year, the two started sharing a bedroom and Miss Emma would check on Miss Carly while Miss Carly was sleeping.

Miss Emma, Miss Carly, and Down Syndrome Daddy at the airport.

Miss Emma will be missed be all and we can not wait to see her again.

R-Word Again

18 07 2012

Here we go again…

I was watching the new show “Political Animals” on the USA Network and not more then 10 minutes in one of the main characters drops the R-word.

Are you serious?

How pathetic is that?

I generally like the shows on USA, including White Collar and WWE RAW (yes, I do watch wrestling and no, I don’t believe it is “real”)  But with this lack of respect and the use of the R-Word, I will be looking for another channel to watch.

Carly and I are turning our backs on the USA Network!
