Fall Fashion

Miss Carly is already set for the fall with this lovely fall getup including tennis shoes and a train engineer hat.

It maybe 90 degrees outside, but it is not too early to think about this falls fashion trends.

This close

27 05 2012

She is this close……

This close to taking her first steps.

This close to pulling herself up the couch.

This close to running along the beach with her brother and sister.

This close to trying to climb every object in the house.

This close to wanting to navigate the stairs from the first to the second to the third floor.

This close to having us chase her all around the house.

This close to her chasing the cat all around the house.

This close to opening a whole new adventure to all of us.

We are this close……….

You don’t know…

15 01 2012

You don’t know why you are pregnant with a child who has Down syndrome.

You will know that you have been given this incredible blessing for a reason.

You don’t know how “much” Down syndrome your child will have.

You will know that each time your child smiles your heart will melt.

You don’t know how you will tell your family, friends, and coworkers about the diagnosis.

You will know that you have some amazing family and friends; I have Dave, who will always love and support you.

You don’t know how many sleepless nights you will have.

You will know that most of them will be just watching your beautiful child sleep.

You don’t know how big the Down syndrome community is.

You will know that the Down syndrome community is full of support, shoulders to cry on, sharing triumphs, and most importantly, it is full of love.

Welcome to our community.

Even better, welcome to our family.

2012 Goals

2 01 2012

Been thinking about goals for 2012 and how they relate to Miss Carly.

Some great goals for Miss Carly are:

Speaking 5-10 words clearly

Walking on her own

Eating “real” food and drinking from a sippy cup

Hmmm… what about potty training as well?

Just some thoughts on Miss Carly and goals for 2012.

Are you aware?

5 10 2011

Are you aware?

In case you were not aware, October is Down Syndrome Awareness month.

Before I was blessed with my baby girl, I don’t think I would have been aware that October is Down Syndrome Awareness month.

Heck, before Carly, I could not count on one hand how many people I knew that had a child with Down Syndrome.

Once we had Carly, my eyes opened up to how many individuals either have, raise, or know someone with Down Syndrome.

Now, half of my Facebook friends and most of the folks I follow in Twitter are parents of children who have Down Syndrome.

Now, I write two blogs about raising a daughter with Down Syndrome.

Now, I am participating in the 31 for 21 post a day blog challenge for Down Syndrome Awareness month.

Now, I fine my coworkers $1 for each time they say the R-word.

Now, I am completely aware.

Three Years Ago

15 07 2011

Three years ago we awaited the birth of our baby girl….

Three years ago we rushed to the hospital, running some red lights on the way….

Three years ago after the delivery the Doctor turned to me and said…

“She is showing signs of Down Syndrome”

Just like you

Three years ago we were told that she may not be able to hear….

Three years ago she had two holes in her heart….

Three years ago we fed her from a medicine dropper over 15 times a day…

Three years ago seems just like it was yesterday…..

Pretty in Pink

Three years ago our lives changed for the better…

Coming home from Seattle

Three years ago we were blessed to have a child that just happens to have Down Syndrome..

Three years ago I became the luckiest Dad in the world…..

Little Princess Good Good

Three years ago she stole our heart..

Three years ago Miss Carly was born…

Happy Birthday my sweet little girl!

Three years down and so many more to go.

With love….

I Bay Bay

1 07 2011

Previously, Miss Carly had earned the nickname Princess Good Good. Recently, she has developed a new nickname, again bestowed upon her by herself.  Her new nickname is I bay bay.

So how did Princess Good Good become I Bay Bay?  It all started when Carly was going through adjusting to a new home and teething at the same time.  She would start to cry (so much for the myth that children with down syndrome are happy all the time) and starting saying “I bay bay”  We would reassure by saying “Yes, you are the baby”  That would usually comfort her a little bit as she is/was able to communicate with us and let us know how she is feeling.  However, when she really gets going one simple “Yes, you are the baby” does not always work.

Mary Jane and I have spent numerous minutes and miles walking the floors of our new place while Carly repeats over and over again “I bay bay”  We have found the best way to get through it is to let her tell us that she is the baby and hold her and hug her.  She eventually gets through the crying then lets out a big sigh, followed by one more “I Bay Bay” before falling back to sleep or having a bite to eat.

As she nears the big 3 (July 17) Miss Carly has already been lucky enough to have two nicknames.  I wonder which one she will come up with next?

My delayed announcement

28 05 2011

Ok, I promised an announcement on Monday and did not get a chance to update.  We were out in Massachusetts house hunting as we get ready to make the move to Peabody, MA.

Without further delay… Confessions of a Down Syndrome Daddy has been picked up to be an “official” blog of the special needs website GoDandelion.com

GoDandelion is a website for the magazine Dandelion that is a special needs publication for families in the San Francisco and Sacramento area (and of course the surrounding areas as well) and has official bloggers from those areas.

As Boston is just a couple of thousand miles away from Sacramento, I was initially worried that I would not be able to be part of this wonderful opportunity.  Thankfully, the Dandelion team made an exception.

So soon you will see posts on both Confessions of a Down Syndrome Daddy.com and at GoDandelion as well.  Each site will have its own posts so please continue to visit this site and check out GoDandelion as well.

As I wrap this up, a big thank you goes out to everybody who reads this site and/or is a fan of our Facebook page as well.  What started out as a site that was viewed just by family members, and my friend Dave, has seen an increase in both views and unique visitors each month and a steady increase in Facebook fans as well.  None of this would have been possible without friends like you.

Thank you from the beach..Life is good.

Thank you so much!
