Miss Carly enjoying her new gait trainer.

Great news!

Yippee! Yippee!  Carly’s gait trainer arrives this Friday!  It is a lovely raspberry/pink color, perfect for a princess!

Therapists say that once walking kicks in all developmental milestones kick in as well.

So far Miss Carly can say “juice”, “that”, and “no”.

She is shy and does not say it around me but loves to say it around everyone else.

Just a giggle

Click on the word giggles…it is the sound of Carly laughing.  It will need to down load and play in your media player.

The sweet sound of Miss Carly playing with her brother, Brady.

Mary Jane sent this to me while I was out of town on business last week.  Made me smile from ear to ear.

Grab all they can

28 10 2012

We knew this day was coming.

It’s not like we hadn’t been warned.

We had been warned and had experienced it a couple times before, thanks to Emma and Brady.

Though sometimes I did wonder if this day would ever come.

That day is here…..

The day that nothing on the couch or other areas within standing/reaching distance is safe from the grabbing hands of a little Miss Carly!

She pulls herself up on the couch and reaches, grabs, and tugs at anything her hands make contact with.  Most of the time it’s some type of magazine or perhaps a page or two of Brady’s school work.

Though one time it was MJ’s breakfast bowl and a spoon as well, apparently Miss Carly did not want to wait for her own breakfast, which was warming up in the kitchen.

The poor TV remote has been victimized multiple times as Miss Carly loves to grab it and then toss it behind her back.

Not only can she pull herself to grab items, she now has the ability to “walk” down the length of the couch and hunt down any and all other items she can find.

As Depeche Mode once sang “The grabbing hands grab all they can”

So while the couch is no longer a Carly free zone, you will not find a single member of the family who is disappointed by it.

A couple of pictures

Getting better at this each and every week.

Park time!

And new champion….

16 10 2012

Just sitting here watching Miss Carly decide to start wrestling with Brady, she was hanging out and watching Yo Gabba Gabba when the mood to wrestle brother struck.

She rolled over on top of him; he was lying face down, and sat up with her legs over his side.  Carly proceeded to crawl all over Brady and periodically try to grab his nose.  The good news is that it was a great opportunity for her to work on her core strength; the bad news is that Brady was “pinned” multiple times during the match.

After the impromptu match, Miss Carly scooted off and started to play huck and chuck with her other toys.  That is until Brady was distracted and she tackled him again.  It is funny to watch as she keeps playing this cat and mouse game with him.

Hard to believe that just a couple months ago she would just hang out on the carpet yelling at her Barbies and now she is wrestling her brother every chance she gets.

Footie Pajama Surprise!

15 10 2012

Now that the season has turned from summer to fall, Miss Carly is rocking her footie pajamas each night.

Not only are the pajamas nice and warm, they also a great place for Carly to keep a wide variety of toys and other surprises.

Now that she is able to move her zipper up and down, she has discovered that her footie pajamas can store just about anything.

For example, the other night MJ was getting Carly ready for a bath and while taking off Carly’s pj’s, MJ discovered a cookie from one of Carly’s play sets.  Other times, we have discovered a race car or two of Brady’s and a couple puzzle pieces.

Ah footie pajamas, not just for comfort but for storage as well!!

Always happy! Really?

14 10 2012

“I love children with Down Syndrome, they are always happy!”

How many times have we all heard that?

I have some pretty good proof that children with Down Syndrome, especially ones who go by the name of Caroline Josephine, are not always happy.

Let’s take this weekend for example…. Not happy when she woke up with an empty belly and MJ carried her right past the kitchen and upstairs to the other bedroom, funny how her crying only stopped when MJ stopped in front of the fridge.

Not happy when she heard someone cooking dinner in the kitchen and then coming into the living room without food for her!

Not happy when I put her in the stroller while I was coaching Brady’s soccer team!  However, she was very happy when I held her while we practiced passing with the team.

Not very happy when she received her two drops of “pink eye” medicine into her eyes this weekend.

Not even close to being happy when she received her ear drops, for her ear infection, in her ears this weekend.

So while she may not always be happy…….

I love my child who is blessed with Down Syndrome.

An update

12 10 2012

An update…

Well, little Miss Carly is feeling much better.  Every time MJ tried to lay down with her and convince Carly to take a nap, Miss Carly would have none of it!  The nerve of some people.

Carly pulled herself up, using my leg, and shuffled up and down the couch for a bit.

I think that she is actually starting to feel better, either that or she is just trying to convince she is  feeling better so she does not have to have any more medicine in her ears, eyes, or throat!

The Triple Crown!

11 10 2012

The Triple Crown!

Miss Carly has pulled off the Triple Crown!

She has been feeling under the weather lately and we assumed that it was the cold that has been going around the neighborhood.  Today was day three of the yucks, so a doctor’s visit was in order.

The Doctor verified that she had a cold and also included two extra bonuses as well.  These two extra bonuses are pink eye and an ear infection!!!

While the rest of us would probably be knocked off our feet with such a triple whammy, it does not seem to faze Miss Carly at all.  She continues trying to push herself up in a standing position, try on everyone’s shoes or slippers, and play with her toys on the floor.

The only thing that seems different about her is that her snoring is a little bit louder at night but that is it.

Congrats to Miss Carly for pulling off the Triple Crown and we look forward to having you back to full strength soon.
